Is this a joke? Did you even listen to the soundtrack or see the film? There are no fewer than THREE new themes/motifs present in this sequel score.

1. Moriarty's theme
2. Mycroft's theme
3. Gypsy theme(s)

One star because it reminded you of past Zimmer scores? The same complaint wasn't leveled against John William's TIN TIN or Silvestri's CAPTAIN AMERICA, scores which drew heavily upon past scores. I hope that you're aware how much of a cliche anti-Zimmer-Filmtracks-reviews have become...

Hence the word "major." The reviewer went on to mention a few new motifs. They just were not that well articulated in the score. All of Zimmer's really obvious thematic quotes in the score are from the first film.

Fanboyism.

Not really, it's more common sense. Silvestri's GI JOE, THE A-TEAM, and CAPTAIN AMERICA are all strikingly similar and repeat many musical ideas and motifs heard in his earlier scores, such as Predator, Back to the Future, Eraser, Volcano, The Mummy Returns, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Beowulf, and Van Helsing. But the moment someone hears The Peacemaker in a Zimmer score, they claim that it's the worst thing in the world.

That being said, I LOVED every single score I just mentioned.

I think that CC is more angry (at least I am) bout the presentation of the score. Only the Mycroft theme is given a clear rendition on the album, the entire gypsy and Moriarty are hard to find if at all. So many tracks that played during the movie aren't present on this album and worse, there's studio dialogue and other annoying things in the background that take away from the listening experience. I'm with you that this score isn't that bad as written for the film, but as it is presented on the soundtrack, it pretty much sucks.
