Well I don't think that synth are bad, the problem is that Chariots it's not an excelent score and that year Williams' "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was also nominated. I like Vangelis... But I like him only in some cues.
The problem of Vangelis does not have to do with the synthesizer but with its lack of orignality.
