Chariots of Fire is linked forever with the Olympics.. that's an archievement on its own already. But ofcourse, ..*sigh*.. I'll be forever talking to conservative soundtrack listeners who poo on synths and accept nothing less than acoustic instruments all the way. (because synths are 'always bad' ofcourse )

Just as a starting violin student can freak the neighbours away with harsh sounding crap, so can a synth-player by using dull sounds.
Just as a prof. musician can play a violin like a godess, so can a synth-player, and Vangelis does just that.

These weren't my first words on the on-going synth-bashing here, and I fear they won't be the last either..

Well I don't think that synth are bad, the problem is that Chariots it's not an excelent score and that year Williams' "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was also nominated. I like Vangelis... But I like him only in some cues.
The problem of Vangelis does not have to do with the synthesizer but with its lack of orignality.

Ha ha ha! Vangelis and lack of origanality??? This is kind of joke. Chariots of Fire is one of the greatest score ever. Why? Because of it's new style. John Williams's Riders of Lost Ark is only postwagnerian another huge orchestral score. There is of courese beautiful main theme, but it is stll the same. LACK OF ORIGANALITY. Try to be objective.

To all of you....
No one can compare Vangelis' Chariots of Fire with John williams' Raiders of the lost ark!! The latter one is far superior...
I'm not saying that chariots of fire is bad, i did enjoy it a lot when i got it, but right now it just doesn't sound good....
I do hate synths most of the time, but i do like them very much when it is a sound that cannot be achieved with acoustic instruments...that's what synths are all about!!!
If you imitate a choir with a synth it sounds AWFUL (Titanic, anyone?), or if you imitate sounds such as claps (just like chariots' main theme)...well, i don't think it will sound good either way...
Chariots of fire had its day, and it can still be enjoyable, but the synths do make it sound terrible...
Synths can be a great tool if used properly (yes, creating sounds that aren't possible with acoustic instruments), and Vangelis' music would sound much better if he used a real orchestra...
