I think you missed the point in that last reply. He wasn't comparing Zimmer and Elfman, but rather just saying that they both are the best composers at the moment. Their differences probably even support that arguement.

However, i think you are right about john williams, and although my personal favourite is hans zimmer, i think critically john williams is actually a better composer, because his melodies have a much more universal emotional appeal and many more of his works have become remembered than Zimmer's (I know he's been in the business longer than Zimmer, but still i think his style remains true to that statement).

Also, don't forget Ennio Morricone - Zimmer's inspiration! He is magnificent, and is still churning out great modern music as well as his golden older stuff.
