I've been waiting for this score to be release for three years now, and all I can say is that "IT'S ABOUT FLIPPIN' TIME THEY RELEASED IT!" The score for the first Ring movie did exactly what it was intended to do. It enhanced the horrifying effect of the movie. Despite what the critics, including Mr. Clemensen, might say. I am firmly convinced that Zimmer will once again create that same chilling effect through his score for Ring two. The score for the Ring was not intended to be just some ordinary soundtrack designed for everyones personal enjoyment. It was written to compliment the films creeped out plot. It is finally being released so that Ring fans can re-live the experience of seeing the Ring for the first time. It is, therefore, my belief that Zimmer's Ring score does not deserve criticism of any kind. In my opinion, motion picture scores shouldn't be judged seperately from their film. The in-film effect is what I am observant of when rating a score. In order to experience the full effect of a score, one must see it in-film because it was designed and written to be a VITAL EMOTIONAL COMPONENT of the film. And when it comes to the Ring IN-FILM score, it is quite simply an appropriate and outstanding score. A few good question to ask yourself when rating a score is, "What was the purpose of this particular score?" "Did the score evoke the appropriate emotions for the film? What were those emotions?" "Were there any parts in the movie where the music seemed to overshadow or overpower the film? If so, where were those parts?" "Did the music merely enhance the films emotional quality or did it fulfil the films emotional quality?" I understand that people have differing opinions. However, I do believe that in order to treat a musical score fairly, one should be able to give reasons why they either like or dislike a score. The questions listed above were designed to help people understand by simple reasoning why they either like or dislike a particular film-score. With regards to the Ring score, I have concluded that it did fulfil and achieve what it was intended to. It evoked the proper emotions of fear and suspense, and the music, in my opinion, was neither overpowering nor too timid. I can, therefore, reasonably say that IT WAS GREAT!
