Having watched this movie recently on cable a few times
(Perdition), then two days later watching Shawshank (again), I had no idea, prior to watching Shawshank (it's been awhile since I've watched it, but I have seen it before quite a few times over the years) that the scores for both movies were written by the same person. However, I tend to have an ear for these things and it didn't take long into Shawshank to hear the striking similarities in the films' scores.

This is not a bad thing- both films are period pieces, both are haunting and disturbing movies, and now I've not only learned both share the same composer, but I've stumbled upon another Newman to whom I have grown very fond of in terms of his talents in writing score.

The other, being Randy Newman (I know, no relation, plus I think I spelled his name wrong anyway!). But the film Avalon (directed by Barry Levinson, 1989) is THE BEST score I've ever heard.....these two films are now in my top ten....

Randy Newman is related to Thomas, they are cousins I believe.
