Danny Elfman is a great composer and listening to the main theme of Spider-man it reminded me of earlier scores that he has done. Like MIB and Planet of the Apes. Lately he has just been composing hero's and superhero movies, but I can't wait for another score like Sommersby or Edward Sissorhands. Batman, I think, is going to be my all time favorite hero score from Elfman. It proved how well he can make film scores of this genre. Just like Horner is the master of drama and Willams the master of action/adventure, Danny Elfman is the master of hero/dark films. Which is why he is the 2nd best composer in the world in my book (the first being James Horner).
