Okay, I gotta admit, I an not a Zimmer fan. I just don't listen to enough of his work to make a clear decision. I've heard the Crimson Tide theme (great stuff) and I have Broken Arrow (some great work, some not, some very long tracks), but that's about it. I'm not much for synth scores and am a orchestral music fan at heart.

However, I'd like to find out for myself what all the noise regarding Zimmer is about. So, can anyone give me a list of truly great (and hopefully easy to acquire) Zimmer scores I can get and try out? Obviously, I'd like something which has a lot of Zimmer and not too much of the Media Ventures guys he's training.

Any help would be appreciated.

Point of No Return, Crimson Tide, Broken Arrow, The Peacemaker, Beyond Rangoon, The Thin Red Line, The Prince of Egypt, Gladiator, Pearl Harbor, in no particular order.
If you are into orchestral scores, then I'd recommend you to give Hannibal a try as well.

Great suggestions guys. thanks! I picked up Lion King and loved it. Some extremely touching tracks as well as some genuinely chilling action stuff. I'll seek out the others as finances and time permits.

I find I'm liking Zimmer's style enough to hope he goes back to solo scoring on a more regular basis. I think it's great he's grooming new blood for motion pictures scores, but he's still better than his students (although I really REALLY like Klaus Badelt's work so far).

BACKDRAFT and THE PEACEMAKER are my personal favorites. GLADIATOR and HANNIBAL are excellent as well.

exactly what all the others have advised ...

lion king, prince of egypt, gladiator, beyond rangoon are only few of his good scores ... don't forget pearl harbor though, an excellent piece and ofcourse tears of the sun hehe
