Okay... so here are all the themes I noticed in the score - someone tell me if I'm just stupid or what...

Main Title Theme - you know... the one in the main title and the Funeral

Dark Phoenix Theme - the amazing theme from "Whirlpool of Love" "Dark Phoenix Tragedy" and "Dark Phoenix Rises"

Magneto's Theme - the opening Horn motif in "First Church of Magneto" it appears in various other guises throughout the score if you listen closely, usually just a passing string bit or soemthing in the middle cues

Angel's Theme - "Angel's Cure"

The Cure - loads of people have pointed this theme out, its heard a lot in the later passages of the score (the massive action cues)

The action rhythm (thats what I call it) - its heard most prominantly in "Dark Phoenix Tragedy" its 8 sixteenth notes it starts on the tonic and then dips down to the leading tone, repeating that 3 times and then repeats so tonic-leading tone-leading tone-leading tone (repeat)

So yeah, those are all of the themes/motifs that I've picked up on after listening to this score religiously... its quickly becoming my favorite superhero score, even over Batman and Superman (Superman Returns btw was a massive let down in the film)... so yeah, any feedback would be great!

I haven't heard the score yet but the clips on the site are very interesting. At the music shop I had the choice between The Last Stand and Munich and I chose the second one.
I think it's fascinating how little recognition Powell gets compared to Zimmer. Until about 2001 Zimmer was able to compensate missing knowledge with talent and some fresh ideas. He was never a great composer but now it all seems to be about money.
John Powell really has the ability to become the no. 1 composer in hollywood. Let's hope he continues writing a great score for every bad soundtrack from Hans Zimmer.

Exactly! Thats why Powell should score Pirates 3.

Is this theme the one repeated in "Skating on the Pond?" If so, perhaps it's more of a beautiful mutant power theme as Angel was not in that scene at all. I love the wintery twist on it in "Skating."
