Dark Tower and Geostorm have interesting parallels, and not just because both films bombed. The latter made Balfe Bruckheimer's go-to composer. The former is really the birth of Tom's 'adventures with orchestra'. It's not the first time he used Bear McCreary's orchestrators - they did some of the music prep on Black Mass and worked on Deadpool (lol) - but it's the first time you can hear them impact the sound in an symphonic fashion.
In the late 2010s Tom was doing what Zimmer did in the early 1990s: working with collaborators who could gradually expand his orchestral chops. I'd argue we wouldn't have gotten to later stuff like Mortal Engines and Alita, which this community likes more, without Dark Tower serving as a trial run.
