Onward with my totally amateurish rundown of the Defenders! Today's episode: Jessica Jones!

The Show: Full disclosure, Jessica Jones is my favourite character in the Defenders series. But I guess I'm a sucker for a hero that is burned out and "over it." I really enjoyed this show, but could only watch one episode at a time because of it's crushing nature.

The Music: This score was fantastic! Sure, it's a bit ambient at times, but I really liked the album.
Maybe it's because Sean Callery is doing something different. I feel like Daredevil could be plopped into any Marvel project and it would work, but this is pretty unique. I think the score is strongest when it plays to the noir-ish detective-y atmosphere. "Fire Escape Night Shift" scratched an itch for that 50s hardboiled detective sound. "Hospital Cat and Mouse" is a great example of the jazzy action sound I enjoy about this score. There are a few cues I did not care for as much (Elevator Massacre), but overall, I thought this was a very promising sign of things to come!

Verdict: Depressing show with a wonderful score!

For me Daredevil is the best of the Netflix MCU shows, but S1 of Jessica Jones is a close second. David Tennent as the villain is fantastic.

However, the next 2 seasons convinced me that the character would be better suited for a film instead of a series. Something in a style that's like a cross of Sin City and Jackie Brown would be cool. The series got so bogged down with boring subplots for the supporting characters, it certainly had the biggest drop-off of any of the MCU Netflix shows for me.

I don't remember much about the scores from these shows, so I look forward to reading the rest of your reviews.

Choosing such a charming actor as such a POS was amazing.

That is disheartening.

> The Show

This probably remains my favorite season of the MCU Netflix shows I've seen (full disclosure: didn't watch after Defenders). Kilgrave was a marvelous villain. And it didn't feel like a story overstretched to hit an arbitrary 13 episode duration, a flaw apparent in almost every other season of every other such show.

I still haven't heard the album, but I recall liking the modern noir sound when it appeared.

I originally quit halfway through Daredevil season 2. I agree with you on the pacing of the season - even the slow points were character-building.

If you're into the noir-ish sound, there are definitely some knockout tracks for you on the album.
