So I guess that prequel got canned unsurprisingly. Will Don Davis come back to do the score? All the other players in the franchise minus Lily Wachowski seem to be coming back. Davis needs to get back in Hollywood somehow.

95% certain he won't return. 90% certain Giacchino will score it, or Pale 3. And 75% certain the movie will stink. But hey, I'd love to be wrong.

What happened to that guy? Just suddenly, he got relegated to low budget movies and foreign flicks. Maybe Davis should have worked for Hans or something. Like who did he piss off. It's a damm shame because I really enjoy his Matrix scores.

Davis went off to write his opera, and then he just kinda fell off the face of the earth after that. Couldn't find work for some reason, went back to orchestrating for Randy Newman. We've gotten 2 scores from him in the last couple years, which is something. His sound was so integral to the success of the trilogy (Reloaded stands as one of the best scores of the century so far imo), it would be a damn shame if he didn't get brought back. That said... Lana Wachowski has a good working relationship with Giacchino, because of course she does, so I can't rule out Riley's prediction that it'll be Giacchino. But there are shades of Davis in his Jupiter Ascending and Doctor Strange scores so...it wouldn't be the worst thing.

As someone who likes the whole trilogy, I'm disappointed they're trying to make this happen. I could maybe see something with different characters in the same universe, but I see no way they could bring back Neo and Trinity that would be interesting.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the studio tries to get Zimmer for this new film.

I always thought Inception was Zimmer's take on ideas like The Matrix.

Would love see someone fresh like George Kallis, Ludwig Göransson, Bear McCreary, etc.

If we are going by someone The Wachowskis worked before, I rather they go with Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek, and Reinhold Heil than Giacchino.

Not sure how I feel about a Matrix 4. But if that happen it would be such a pity not to have D.Davis scoring it. Unless Davis doesn’t wish to return, I want to believe this can happen.
Even though the Wachowski have been working with other composer, I think they’ll care about the continuity and cohérence of their universe. The music of D.Davis is such an important part of the franchise identity.
Unless there might have been some issues between them and Davis that I m not aware of? But that kind of stuff can be sorted out.
Anyway, not really excited by the perspective of this fourth installment. But would be very much interested in a new Davis input.

So now that Keanu Reeves has finally become kind of popular, they're trying to make one movie that shouldn't bomb too hard.
The lack of creativity in blockbusters lately is killing me slowly. I used to enjoy going to the movies, but now it seems the only good surprises come from smaller films. The big ones are getting dumber, blander and safer, to the point they're just impossible for me to enjoy (e.g. those stupid Marvel Studios movies, or the horribly crappy Hobbs & Shaw lately).

Mark my words, Matrix 4 will be just like Jason Bourne was, an apt but unneeded and unsuccessful resurrection of a great trilogy.
