This is the best chase music ever written for a movie (well, starting at the 1 minute mark).

1. You need to take a lesson in irony
2. If you think he's wrong, what's the best chase music ever written for a movie?

OMG I forgot how cheap-as-F some moments of this score are. LOL. All those insistent percussion loops (synth and real) do wear on me after a while.

And the absence of an effective hero theme does make this track a little odd. Most other scores like this from the era would lean HARD into the most epic statement of the most epic theme possible...but the most epic theme in this work doesn't really have anything to do with Nic Cage.

Still, there is a certain nostalgic charm to this kind of straightforward, 'all energy all the time' music from MV's heyday.

It has a great epic theme in there! Its just not heard anywhere else in the rest of the score haha. But yeah, the non-stop energy is what really revs my engines.

Not sure if you're sarcastic, but I actually kinda agree with that statement. The Rock really is one of the best MV scores of its era, and action music was its strength as much as its dramatic moments. Love how over-the-top and constantly in motion it is!

I like to be a little facetious and hyperbolic with my "very important" statement threads, but I'm really not kidding around much with this guy. I know there are BETTER chase cues out there, yet very few I enjoy as much and have listened to as frequently. Glad to see another fan!

Whaaat no way. I'm sorry, but I'm just relistening to your bid, and it's pretty dull? Sort of like the electric guitar thrown in, but otherwise, it's like the ideas that would become POTC but without the infectious structure, and... you just ain't gonna tell me it's more fun than this...

Or this... (you love this, right??)

OR, I raise you this masterpiece:

Cut to around four minutes if you want some of the best orchestrated action of the 90s...

Yep, I'm getting carried away.

Sure did slugger! I'll let myself be convinced by Raiders, but inviting Randy Newman to an action party is like bringing a water balloon to a knife fight :P

If we ignore anything written by Williams, Herrmann, Goldsmith, Giacchino, Horner, Powell, Desplat, Zimmer, Korngold, Tyler, and Goldenthal, sure.

Tyler? Desplat? Nope. None of them can write a chase cue with modern sensibilities as good as The Rock except Zimmer and Powell (who did it with Face/Off's "Escape").

"Clutch and Shift" and "Landtrain" are some of the most exciting action tracks of the last 15 years!

Yeah my kneejerk reaction was to go "nothing Tyler's ever written is as good as The Rock" but you really can't argue with "Clutch Then Shift". It's in the top 10 action cues of that decade for me.

I remember Landtrain very well (and love it), but....I don`t recall Clutch Then Shift at all. Which Furious flick was that one from?

Definitely a cool track but I always felt this track didn't really match with the rest of the score, as if it was written for a completely different film. None of the themes feature in this track and the main melody of this cue never returns in the rest of the score (as far as I can tell).

And we all know the best chase cue is "Bim Bam Smash" from The Bourne Supermacy wink

I'm fine with themes not being used in a chase cue as long as SOMETHING is. Like you said, it's not a main recurring theme, but the melody in that track is just outstanding. Plus I can't knock the music for that -- this cue wasn't even written by Glennie Smith or Zimmer. The revolving door of composers on that sucker was a total mess so I'm just happy to see any awesome melody in there.

> And we all know the best chase cue is 'Bim Bam Smash' from The Bourne

A gooder, for sure. But not as good as The Rock!
