For those unaware (very few, I hope), Our Benevolent Overlord has posted his review of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves with a rather surprising rating. Given Christians review plus Jon's rather positive take... seems I have become the 'Cranky Old Man' on this one with the lowest rating and a 'eh, it might appeal more to Balfe Fans' sentiment.

There's really no more reason to me posting this than just to share my bemusement at having the most negative take on a new score in... quite a while. tongue

Same but for Superman 2 instead of Dungeons and Dragons

I'm actually glad he gave Thorne four stars, I always thought it was very good score and I love seeing an underrated and forgotten composer like Ken Thorne get a high rating.

Clem’s made me laugh because his “Buy It or Skip It” section sounded so negative, I predicted a 3 in film, 2 on album rating. Did not expect a 4, that’s for sure.

But yeah, you were too crabby on that one 😝 but you also said you heard it twice so I can’t even blame it on a bad mood or not having a good first listen. I dunno…some scores just don’t work for ya but work for others I guess. Everyone was losing their shit recently for that “new” Desplat score, Eiffel or whatever it was called, and I listened to 2/3’s and then moved on with my life without caring at all about finishing it.

Yeah, his review reads like a lesser rating and then BAM! 4/5 overall. tongue

I'm blaming it on hanging out with you and us agreeing on a bunch of things recently. wink tongue

Yeah, I guess it's one of those situations. I mean, as I said in ym review, it's well produced and works as "generic background fantasy music" but.... man, I want MORE than just "generic background fantasy music" especially at 90 minutes and/or having to wittle it down to the highlights, which I'd still rather listen to an number of other fantasy scores seen then.

Haha... haven't gotten to that one yet but also not surprised you didn't like it what with your history with Desplat and all.

Well, we all have those moments. At least you didn't get shredded for calling Mario dull and lifeless. Or worse, write a 3 star review of To Kill a Mockingbird, I mean what kind of asshole would do that??

(.....I would also only probably give Mockingbird 3-3.5/5 stars....)

I think 3 stars is right for this one but it could be 4 if you cut out some of the trash tracks, so maybe Clemmensen was right. Albums that long make you sit through 20 or more YouTube ads just to hear if its worth buying. That pissed me off.
