The incremental bonus tracks aren’t the main attraction here, admittedly. The slinky Anthony Newley version of the song is a very different take on the material and one that was rightfully rejected; one could argue the original album wouldn’t have sold nearly as well with a lounge version of the tune attached. And the mono version of the Bassey performance lacks the raw slap-in-the-face power of the main version.

Nonetheless…

Reason #1 to buy - It sounds better than ever. Not perfect - and with the film recording still believed to be lost, it probably never will be - but still a step up from the 2003 CD release.

Reason #2 to buy - finally, this sucker is in film order - in other words, unlike the 2003 expansions, you don’t have to give away this CD after ripping the audio.

Good to hear. On my list to pick up for sure. Just saw Young's complete score for "The Core" is getting a rerelease, so I'm grabbing that before I miss it again. smile

Oooh, have fun with The Core! It's a fantastic album, though I can't help but kinda wish Intrada would do something like with Species and give us both the film version and Young's album sequencing. But anyway, it's a fantastic work for a rather silly picture. big grin tongue

Hmm, when I did my Bond-a-thon a number of years ago, Goldfinger was the one everyone thought I got wrong (I was decidedly whelmed by it).

Maybe I should do a re- listen with this release and couple it with the expanded Tomorrow Never Dies and No Time to Die albums.

I was lower on it years ago as well. I do wonder if part of it is that it was the first film in the franchise to truly nail the concept and so everything else, including the music, just flows from there. Barry and others may have built a few superior contraptions on top of this foundation, but it doesn't lessen the original's power.

Rewatching the movie with an eye (ear?) towards the score certainly helped in my reevaluation as well. The raid on Fort Knox and the race-against-the-clock finale wouldn't work half as well without Barry's music hammering away.
