Comments about the soundtrack for Batman Begins (Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard)

Batman Begins: Incidental Music

This was one of the greatest filmmusic disappointments.

If you take out JNH's beautiful "love theme" (it's not a love theme really but anyway), they music here is mostly interchangeable action music, that brings a suspense action film to mind, and not Batman.

However, despite the fact that as a CD this score has only a few moments of beauty buried within an hour of loud filler, on film it worked. And this was its primary purpose.

Let's hope that for the second film they take a bit more melodic approach. Zimmer in Hannibal showed that he can be a master of creepy melodic music, he's not chained to the MV sound.
