Hi, I really liked EVITA the Movie as it has songs in it for most people. I often sit at the computer listerning to one song over and over and over... then I'll switch to another and so on. One thing bugs me though. Who is Che( Antonio Banderas)? Is he someone out of Eva's past? the Narrator? the Oppressed People? some dude they picked up off the street? Who the Heck is he!?! pls someone tell me! e-mail me at Cattatra@yahoo.co.uk.

I know that this reply is probably two years late but in case anyone else wanted to know, the part of Che in the original stage production is supposed to be Che Guevara, who was a communist revolutionary from Argentina. He later helped Fidel Castro take power in Cuba and became it's minister of industry. On stage Che would be dressed up in a beret and army fatigues, reflecting the real historical figure. On stage he was played by Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya from "The Princess Bride")
When the film version came around (the film is not as negative about Eva as the stage version so you can say it has been watered down), many felt that having a Communist rebel (who opposed the US) as narrator might not sit well with American audiences. So the "Guervara" was dropped from the character's name and he just became "Che," an 'everyman' narrator who is everybody and nobody at the same time. He mainly represents the working class.
