Did anybody stop to consider how stereotypical and rude it was for Williams to use a jolly tuba tune for Jabba the Hutt? Why do tubas always have to represent obesity? Is it simply because tuba players in marching bands tend to be fat?

No, it's because "big" equals "slow" equals "low". Just as small equals "fast" equals "high". For the same reason a tuba represents fatness, a piccolo would represent a small flying bird. Performance wise, those are also the things you do with these instruments.
Stereotypes, that's the way it's always been and will always be. For the same reason you wouldn't find a delicate 'n fragile solo violin representing a bad-ass invading alien, and you wouldn't find a complete brass band playing fortissimo to underscore a student scientist observing an ant in a lab.
