In my opinion, this is a disappointing review that shrugs off the 2023 La La Land release and partially fails to acknowledge the work that went into the score and its latest edition. The franchise point of view weakens the argument. Don't we have enough musical callbacks and theme recycling nowadays in the franchise-driven movie and marketing machine? The Lost World score is a one of a kind experience full of bold choices and wonderful new themes. The rhythmic action sequences are some of the composer's finest of the late 90s.
