I simply must disagree with the review given to Danny Elfman's score to the Planet of the Apes. Yes, the score sports a heavy amount of Percussion...but consider the source, this is a movie about apes and gorillas. It's savage and barbaric subject matter and requires an almost constant loud and fast paced beat (atleast through out the action scenes)

I found that the most appealing track is track 4, "The Hunt". This portion of the score puts you right in the mood and right into the action. Without seeing the movie, one should have no trouble imagining a scenario where they're running through a dim-lighted jungle being chased by a bunch of crazed apes. The score kept me on the edge of my seat.

However, there is a lack of heroic score. Personally, I dont need to hear another "Gladiator" soundtrack... I own that one already. The lack of a heroic score adds to the over-all dark mood of a Tim Burton movie. This score is classic Danny Elfman!
