Repetitive, inconsistent, poor thematic diversity, poor secondary material, derivative and simple themes.... In most tracks nothing of interesting really happens. Download two or three tracks by the internet and dont waste your money on the CD.

I hoped for more, and I was slightly disappointed. Especially Luthor's themes seem to be just...unmemorable. I can't remember it at all. The score is good, make no doubt about it, but it could have been better. There's nothing wrong with it, but it also sounds like you say, regular, at least in terms of themes and motifs.
After many listenings, over and over, I'm still not left with something I can hum or repeat in my head(Apart from the Main Theme, which quite frankly gets annoying quickly), unlike X3 which had several of those parts, and even more, X2 which was filled with memorable parts.
So, while the score is nice and dandy, it lacks that extra to become special. That's just me though, I like comic book scores to be very heavy on theme and color, just like the comics the characters originate from. Hence one of the reasons why Elfman's Batman score is still my favorite, it is so rich on themes that define scenes, situations and characters. In Superman Returns, it just goes with the flow.

Themes are *everywhere* in this score. They just aren't always as blatantly obvious as some other superhero flicks.
Bravo Mr. Ottman!

I agree. I wasn't specially impressed during first listen though. I thought it didn't have much to offer beside obvious Williams motifs. But I must admit I've listened to it couple of times now & I'm begining to appreciate it more, picking up more relishes with each listen. There are plenty of themes, only they're in that typical Ottman's minimalistic style, not developed as much as one would want. Nonetheless, fusion of Williams music & Ottman's is superb. Give it a second or even third chance people, it grows - it's one of "those" scores.

I was particularly impressed with the "emotional" and romantic themes..
very subtle yet powerful. When I listen to it, images from the movie
stream through my mind. It's a wonderful experience.

I have to agree most with the direction of this thread. My first listen I wasn't impressed. I listened again because I enjoy the Superman theme and I threw in a few extra tracks as I listened.
I agree the Luthor themes are forgettable, but the old Luthor theme was frankly annoying and it was worth trying something else. They made a conscious decision to keep many of the major themes of the old movie, so that has to be accepted or criticised. I think on many of tracks Ottman does a wonderful job of mixing new and old - "Memories" and "Rough Flight".
I often find myself humming the romantic themes on the way to work - "I Wanted You to Know".
