Themes - Ottman finally exposed.

I know Ottman is an intelligent & talented composer. I admire him a lot. Altough, I always had slight problem with his motifs & themes. They were rather rare, minimalistic & not really developed. Usually, just when a melody caught my attention it was dramatically cut or twisted and continued with completely different tonation or key. It really annoyed me. In such cases, I used to think: "Oh John, why did you do that? Let it flow - it could be great." I guess Ottman prefers to stick to minimum - instead of driving his compositions into a border of being over-the-top & bombastic he puts most effort on climate & subtle emotional way.

Lucky for me, with film like Superman he just had to show his more colorful side. And he really did. His themes still ain't omnipresent (which is rather good) but they are ear-candy. Concentrating on his original work, I must say it's my fav Ottman's score so far. Plus, perfect mix with Williams work makes it a superb achievement.
