"Go in a Good Way" liberally steals from his own Independence Day smile

But man... it feels great to discover an old-school David Arnold score that had passed me by.

It is undeniably Arnold. So effective, so mature. Just superb stuff.

Among my Arnold top 10, this is probably the one I listen to the least. I have no good justification for this.

I did burst out loud laughing when Arnold reprised a theme from this during the Sherlock series finale.

Re: An absolute essential   Thursday, August 7, 2025 (8:41 p.m.)

There is no amount of praise that can be too much for this score, and it’s one that has virtually no weaknesses. The fact that it’s so overlooked - even in film music circles- is criminal. big grin

The score is the perfect merging of three key aspects of David Arnold: his love for John Barry scores, his relentless pursuit of singable, memorable themes, and a harmonic density of sound that makes even quiet moments of dialogue underscore interesting.

In the pantheon of great, lyrical western scores, this one is head and shoulders above the rest - for me it even beats out Legends of the Fall.

If you haven’t heard this score yet, consider this your final warning. big grin

-Brendan
