> Prometheus (2012) - ***˝
It is kinda weird/sad how for both of his "prequel" Alien films, Scott really praised and included quotes of Godlsmith's main theme form Alien... despite pretty much going out of his way to exorcise that very piece from the original film.
As for Prometheus, it's a solid enough genre effort that actually makes for a decent album listen... if you're into avant garde tinged Sci-Fi/Horror music, of course. Looking back we actually gave this the same rating:

> Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012) - ****
I never got past the first Madagascar film, which I actually like. Have seen bits of Escape 2 Africa on TV, but never watched the whole thing. By the time this one came out, I was completely uninterested. Might check out the albums, though, at least this third one since it got a 4/5 from you.
> The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - **˝
Ah... this one is a mess. I've only seen the film once and then tried rewatching it a few years ago when I got a collectors set of the entire trilogy thinking "it's been years since I watched Rises, I need to give it another shot". Made it less than halfway through when I realized I was only halfway through and then promptly moved on to something else I actually really wanted to watch.
The score is a major letdown of large swaths of repurposed material from the prior two films with two new themes that can't make up for the larger weakness therein. This is also Exhibit A for anyone who says "James Newton Howard didn't really add anything to Begins and Dark Knight, Zimmer would have been better on his own". In other words, this trilogy needed Howards dramatic and often lighter touch to be excellent. Without him we have.... The Dark Knight Rises.
