Now Playing: Final Fantasy X - Various

For some odd reason I woke up with the Aeons music from "Final Fantasy X" in my head. So I guess I'm listening to that today. So we got Uematsu of course. But you also have Hamauzu and Nakano contributing. This means this score sounds quite a bit different from the previous entries. But I think they did a really great job (for the most part). That Zanarkand theme is top notch stuff, and obviously the Aeon summons are earworms. But a lot of the score has a kind of low key feel to it, which is nice.

Anyway, lots of fond memories playing this game way back when, and the music was a big part of it.

What are you listening to?

I'm remembering someone mentioning a Final Fantasy Album that came out last year or the one before... I don't remember if this was a new one or kind of an anniversary compilation of some sort... Just remember listening to it and liking it, but can't find it back... Any help ? Don't remember who put it in a Top release that time, maybe Riley ? Damned me, can't remember...

Maybe that was the massive score to the remaster of Final Fantasy VII. That was impressive in scope, as well as execution.

If you want something a bit easier to digest, I heartily recommend the "Distant Worlds: The Music of Final Fantasy" series of albums. It is pretty much a greatest hits of the series presented in full orchestral beauty. The first two albums are top notch and a good sampling of what the series has to show off (up to around FFXI if memory serves, that was the latest game at the time of these releases). As they years have gone by, they've made more of these and added tracks from the more recent games.

All in all a nice place to start with Final Fantasy music, and in a manageable chunk, with each album running about an hour.

Hope you enjoy.
