Now Playing: Shipping News - Young

Kicking things off with Young's "Shipping News". Still one of my favorite non-horror scores form him and a perfect for winter listening. After that "The Wind Gods" by Toprak, a score with a very similar style. Kind of busy today, so that may be all I've got time to listen to.

What are you listening to?

Starting out with the expanded Avatar: Way of Water score. So far, I find it to be a big improvement upon the original album. More Horner references and a chronological order help the crystallize the narrative in ways that make apparent what an accomplishment Franglen's work is. My one big complaint, and this was the same for Horner's original, is the lack of a clear villain motif. Given the whole villain situation in both films (and presumably the third one), this seems to be a glaring omission that hinders the attempt at thematic storytelling. That aside, this will likely be my favorite *film* score of 2022.

After that, continuing my month-long dive into obscure Christmas/Winter scores. Planning on doing some kind of write-up on all my discoveries this year either today or tomorrow.
