As with the MV and RC rankings, some placements were easier than others, there are varying degrees of confidence, and this would probably look different if I did it again from scratch.
Early days & Media Ventures rankings for those curious - https://www.filmtracks.com/scoreboard/forum.cgi?read=108519
Remote Control rankings for those curious - https://www.filmtracks.com/scoreboard/forum.cgi?read=113226
It bears repeating that my generation seems to like lists and I am thus psychologically incapable of not doing this.
Covered composers include holdovers Hans Zimmer, John Powell, the Gregson-Williams brothers, Ramin Djawadi, Steve Jablonsky, Lorne Balfe, Henry Jackman, Geoff Zanelli, Mark Mancina, Tom Holkenborg, and David Buckley, as well as new headliners David Fleming, Steve Mazzaro, Matthew Margeson, Dominic Lewis, Germaine Franco, and Jacob Shea - plus add’l composers, arrangers, and programmers and the many orchestrators, conductors, technical folks, assistants, and musicians who helped everyone achieve their visions.
The Media Ventures rankings had 94 works - 45 of which were discoveries.
The Remote Control rankings cover 165 scores and one concept album - 104 of which were discoveries.
This covers 175 scores, two concert programs, an oratorio, and an album of suites - 98 of which were discoveries.
John Powell unsurprisingly dominates my top 10. Lorne Balfe has four entries in my top 20, while Ramin Djawadi shows up four times in my top 30. Henry Jackman, Matthew Margeson, and Dominic Lewis each show up twice in my top 15, and not just for their co-compositions.
My highest-ranked discoveries from this era are Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Kong: Skull Island (#24 and #25). On the flip side, all but six scores ranked #130-175 were discoveries.
Unlike the 2005-2012 rankings, where half of my top 30 was animated film scores, there is no dominant genre this time.
Highest-ranking television score: His Dark Materials Season 3 at #33.
Highest-ranking video game score: Beyond: Two Souls at #94.
Scores Hans wrote some/most/all of or produced: 41 (I think).
