Hi All,
As always, but it's important to repeat it: Many thanks to Craig for doing this every year, to CC for keeping this place going, and to all of the contributors in this forum for all their insights and recommendations.
Here is my Top 10 with little commentary:
1 - Kensuke Kingdom - Stuart HANCOCK
THE score that really impressed me from the first time I listened to it.
2 - Lord of the ring : ring of power S2 - Bear MCCREARY
A great follow up to that impressive first season… Can’t wait to hear some of those live, during his Europe tour later this year !
3 - The Wild Robot – Kris BOWERS
I was reluctant to watch that movie at first but let myself convinced by the good ear to mouth. Not disappointed I did, the film is lovely and the score a nice introduction to Bowers’ potential !
4 - Why Dinosaur ? – Romain DARGENT
Totally surprised by this one, after seeing it mentioned by some people on different forum. I’ll need to investigate more of the work of that fellow French man.
5 - Avatar: the last Airbender - Takeshi FURUKAWA
Solid entry that stayed in my Top 5 since the very start of 2024.
6 - Horizon Chapter 1 - John DEBNEY
That final montage cue is one of my most played cue of the year. Just hoping that we will be hearing more of Debney's music for that epic despite the doom promised to Costner’s saga…
7 - Young Woman and the sea – Amelia WARNER
A strong input that confirms all the emergence of her composition work. More please !
8 - Gladiator II - Harry GREGSON-WILLIAMS
Not on the same level than the first one (but so is the movie) nor with HGW best works, but I liked the mix of theme from the first one with the new action material (percussions and vocals !).
9 - Wicked – John POWELL
I was skeptical of what would be offered in addition to the existing song, but how could have I doubted Powell abilities to go the extra mile ! Hopefully someone will get this through a full (Song + Music) release…
10 - Here – Alain SILVESTRI
So good to hear this familiar, thematic sound. Lots of Nostalgia !
They could have made the cut:
Twisters - Benjamin WALLFISCH
Bambi – Laurent PEREZ DEL MAR
The primevals – Richard BAND
Superklaus - Diego NAVARRO
COMPOSER OF THE YEAR: Stuart HANCOCK
Thanks,
Jerome
