Back in the infancy of this site, one disgruntled visitor submitted the first piece of invaluable feedback regarding my soundtrack reviews: "If assholes had wings, this place would be an airport." The validity of that statement still remains in question two decades later, though both wise men and foolish trolls have postulated that, if anything, Filmtracks has become a thriving international hub for asshole activity during that time, complete with the worst security screening of its users ever seen at an airport.

Nobody really knows when the "birth" of Filmtracks occurred. Was it November 1995, when the first soundtrack review page of my personal site debuted? Was it February 1996, when that one page became a full site? Was it September 1996, when the filmtracks.com domain name was registered? Or was it October 1996, when my soundtrack review site officially re-launched as Filmtracks? The consensus seems to be that September 24th, 1996, the day I registered the domain name, should be the official birthday. If so, Filmtracks turns 20 years old today.

The thought has occurred to me that the sender of that delightful "if assholes had wings" retort may actually now be deceased. Few current visitors to Filmtracks date back to the dark ages of 1995 and 1996, and many of this site's regular participants weren't even born at that time. Others have indeed passed away. Through all the years, however, the personality of the site has remained rather quirky, irreverent, and defiantly independent, and it's fantastic to see so many familiar readers and participants who, at the very least, recall the site's immense boom of popularity in the late 1990's and the silly behavior of our youth.

I want to express my continued gratitude to both the supporters and detractors of this site, without whom the publishing of reviews about such an obscure corner of the music realm would be far less interesting, sustaining, and rewarding. It's my intent to continue developing Filmtracks and its reviews as best I can while remaining primarily focused on my family. There is no doubt that this site has a family of its own, however, and perhaps the best legacy of Filmtracks has been the convening of unlikely but outstanding new friends, online and in person, from all around the planet. At Filmtracks' 20th anniversary, friends, readers, trolls, and haters, I raise my glass to all of you.

My sincerest thanks,

Christian
