Yeah, I'm about halfway through it (just finished The River Pi), and had the same thought: it's not bad in the since that it's unlistenable, and I suspect that younger or more casual film music listeners that haven't had quite as much exposure to as many past film scores may even love it. The problem is that it's just so...cliche and generic. Those of us that have been collecting soundtracks for a long time have heard the string ostinatos, the "epic" drums, the rising chords so. many. times.

It also hurts the music that it all sounds so...cheap. The orchestra doesn't sound organic or beefy and there are so many synth orchestra parts in there. Why does the score to a big budget Superman movie sound like it was made at the production level of Sharknado?
